ICPAS PRESIDENT HIGHLIGHTS PLANS FOR 2006 AT AGM

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Meritus Mandarin Singapore on 22 April 2006.

At the first Council meeting held immediately after the AGM, Mr Tan Boen Eng, Managing Director of Asia Prime Associates Pte Ltd, was re-elected as the President. Dr Ernest Kan Yaw Kiong, Partner / Head of IPO Group and Head of Learning of Deloitte & Touche, and Mr John Seow Teow Han, Sole Proprietor of John Seow & Company, were re-elected as the Vice President and Treasurer respectively.

Speaking at the AGM, Mr Tan announced the plans for the Institute in 2006. He said that the Institute will continue in its efforts to brand the “CPA Singapore” designation and to raise the profile of ICPAS. The Institute, together with its training arm, the Singapore Accountancy Academy (SAA), will be commissioning a TV program on Channel NewsAsia in October / November this year to promote accountancy as a career to students and their parents. The TV program aims to debunk the staid and boring image of the accountancy profession and show Singaporeans that accountancy is an interesting and exciting career worth embarking with the brilliant job prospects it offers. The Institute will also be producing a new CPA Singapore TV commercial.
